Throughout history, the United Sates government has taken various actions to address problems with the nation's economy. These various actions also had various effects being negative and positive. Two examples were the Transcontinental railroad and the ratification of the North American Free Trade Agreement, also known as NAFTA.
According to Wikipedia the Transcontinental Railroad was a contiguous railroad line over 1,000 miles long. It was constructed in the U.S between 1863 and 1869, west of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. The Transcontinental Railroad was coming out of San Francisco to connect the Pacific coast with the existing eastern U.S rail network at Council Bluffs, Iowa. In the making of the railroad, Chinese immigrants built it from the East to the West. They worked for low wages and in unsafe working conditions. This helped the economy a great deal because sellers could transport more goods, for less money at a faster pace from the East coast to the West coast and vice versa.
The North American Free Trade Agreement also known as NAFTA is an agreement signed by Canada, the U.S and Mexico, which created a trilateral rule based trade block in North America. The agreement came into play on January 1, 1994. It negated the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the United States.
These actions show that the government has interviewed to improve the nations economy.
